CONNECTICUT INSTITUTE FOR COMMUNITIES, INC. (CIFC) Celebrates the City of Danbury’s $60,000 CARES Act Allocation for the Danbury Community Center
Danbury, Connecticut – Connecticut Institute For Communities, Inc. (CIFC), a Danbury-based non-profit organization that provides health, education, and housing programs and services to individuals and families in Greater Danbury and Norwalk (www.cifc.org) and Mayor Dean Esposito, will be celebrating the Danbury Community Center’s (DCC) contribution to the health and wellness of the city’s residents, as well as the City of Danbury’s allocation of over $60,000 ($61,624) in CARES Act money to support the recreational activities at the DCC. The CARES Act (The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security - CARES) is a federal program that provided money to aid organizations and businesses hurt by the COIVD-19 pandemic. This award comes from money allocated to the City of Danbury to distribute in accordance with city priorities.
CIFC acquired the DCC building from the Greater Danbury YMCA in 2018 and rechristened it as the Danbury Community Center upon opening in 2019, not long before the pandemic forced it to close again during the lockdown. Following a grand reopening in 2022, the DCC has continued to add opportunities for the residents of Danbury to have fun, exercise, and stay safe. Currently, the center offers yoga and Zumba in the DCC Studio, while basketball, volleyball, and pickleball are available inside the DCC Gym. These activities remain available throughout the winter when most public courts have closed for the season. The DCC also has the only public access pool in Danbury, which is also indoors and available year-round.
The Pool at the DCC has been offering swim lessons for individuals aged 5-years and up of all levels of ability as well as lifeguard training courses to help reduce the shortage of lifeguards around the nation, especially in an area with as many water activities as Greater Danbury. Currently home to the Bethel/Immaculate High School Swim and Dive Team; the pool is also the winter training home of the Danbury Police Dive Team.
The CARES Act money will be instrumental in ensuring that all of these activities remain available at the DCC.
